EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

First-
90°F in March is something my brain can't understand.

Second-
That is a HUGE fish!!

Third-
Your snakes terrify me.

Fourth-
I am now hooked on the Red Green show, thanks to you.
There are worse things... You do know there are YEARS and YEARS of shows, right? Something to do while it snows outside.

(Just remember, always keep your stick on the ice.)

Saltwater fishing is very appealing, but just can't get myself to drive past all the good places between here and they. I live in a fishermans paradise. Lots of lakes and 1.5 hrs to Lake Superior and 2 hrs to Lake Michigan.
Oh, this was a special trip. I used to get up every Saturday morning at 4:30am and go to Lake Calaveras about an hour south of my house. They stocked it with crappie, catfish, and red drum (red drum can do salt or fresh water). I did the fishing kayak, then I got a bass boat. Always, ALWAYS caught more off the kayak - ended up selling the dang boat. I would set up a rod with a spoon in the rod holder and trail it behind me when paddling to my favorite little spot, always found a nice catfish on the end of the line when I stopped (who needs trolling motor - paddling speed is perfect!) I have a Penn spinning reel that I ADORE - it was a special present to myself one year, I'm sure it'll work fine long after I'm gone.

Now I have more work and I have chickens. I haven't been fishing in ages.

Lol. Sounds about right.

Nice catch! My brother caught a big drum on a crawfish once.
Crawfish - why didn't I think of that?!

Hi Kristin correct on the egg nest and snakes. Neighbors daughter lifted the lid on her nest box and was just about ready to pick up eggs till she saw the rattler. Far too close. Sad about the runner. It happens here on the trail for the lake quite often. Some one will jump over a log and bingo.
The red drum is a cool looking fish

Yikes on the nest box, but not surprised. When you get your annual saltwater fishing license, you get ONE tag for a red drum over the 28" limit. You can buy a bonus tag for a second one if you want. Red drum is the MOST fun - it's also delicious.

It's the way I'm holding it (it was hard to hold up), but it WAS very very big. Red drum is a BLAST.
(Can I have the recipe?  )

It works, that drum was 5 or 10lbs, I don't remember which.

These photos are more realistic (though perhaps less impressive). There was a little "take the dang picture already or I'm going to drop this thing!" going on...

And for contrast, the world's tiniest flounder...

I stayed at the Laughing Horse Lodge on this trip to Port A, which is very bare bones, but fine for a fishing trip and dog friendly, so I brought my greyhounds (they didn't come fishing, of course). Gotta love a place to stay that has a fish cleaning shack right there among the little cabins.

Yeah... I'm in trouble. How can I work when I could be laughing??
