EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Alright, we will see. The temp was mainly at 99.5-100.7 but slowly would go down to 98.4(ish) then hop back up. We will see (If I can last that long.....)
Stable at 100-100.5 is ideal, though 99.5 is fine. I have found that 100 even gives me the best hatches... 99.5 a bit late; & 100.5 a bit early. I've tried both.

I went down to the hatcher this morning. My Hatch was Thursday night .  I had 2 chicks in there, hoping against hope, they would survive.   The one is crippled and I will have to send it to the "chamber" today.

The other was one the membrane shrink wrapped on, he seems healthy enough but his fluff does not fluff. We have oiled, combed shampooed and he just has no down. Without the fluff he will die...

Anyways, when I looked in the hatcher I have a 3rd chick today 4 days after the hatch.  He has the same none fluff problem..

I find it weird when I run 70% humidity in the hatcher and do not open the door for almost 2 days and they shrink wrap.... The a hatch 4 days late  WTHeck?

You have had some strange hatches for sure.

Maybe it is all the magical goings-on chez Ralphie

It was very good. I am not adventurous-cali rolls and spicy tunas-lots of wasabi

I am a "fisherwoman"-I love to fish but don't like a lot of seafood. Being from Michigan and my ex husband from Kentucky, lots of perch, bluegill, sunfish, bass, crappie and catfish

My birds have replaced fishing although I do have a nice pond that I may just do some pole fishing when the weather breaks.

In short, my hand is worse than when the injury happened and the Dr. has no idea of what is wrong but admits something is not right. Since it is past the normal 4 month healing period, comp and disability are getting more difficult and no all of a sudden, they want the "independent medical eval" that I had requested prior to surgery but was denied

I have retained an attorney who I have been consulting since just prior to the surgery and he is confident that there will not be a problem getting me the care I need to return to the best function possible. Thank you for all you well wishes, prayers and optimism. All is in God's hands and He always has a plan.

I love seeing pics of all of you and your birds and hearing about your hatchings.

While you're waiting on the weather, get your fishing gear all set; it'll give you something new to focus on.

I have never understood the WWD. She likes me to keep my things neat and clean. I always keep them clean, I sterilize my hatcher and the trays. I am guessing it is best I do this earlier in the day. Normally I have the cleaning done well before the WWD gets home from work. I was busy cleaning them when she got home. This is what she saw: Some how this was bad, I do not understand it. The first thing out of her mouth was " what are you doing? I told I was cleaning the trays... She wanted to know "And how long have you cleaned them in my bathtub?" She did not seem satisfied when I said about 2 years. Why would she ask a question if she knew the answer would upset her? I am so confused. I am doing what she likes keeping things nice and clean....and she is upset....
Yeah if her toothbrush was not involved you should be safe.

My Brinsea ran a steady 100 degrees and my hatch was by the book. The way I look at it is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I also noted that my back up thermometer closer to the floor of the incubator usually ran in the 99.5 range. Sometimes mas or menos a few tenths of a degree one way or another.

As for the cheeping. Mine didn't utter a word or movement until they pipped. Then I could do my imitation of a broody cluck (which my husband says is way too realistic) and they would cheep back at me and you could see the egg rock. Our cats heard them 24 hours before they pipped though. At 2 weeks, I can still get the chick's attention by doing my broody cluck at them. They will run to the front of the brooder and freeze or if I am holding one of them, they softly peep back at me. Talk about an imprinting moment. I think mine imprinted the moment I first clucked at them while they were hatching.

Okay, I know, I entertain easily.

I run 35%-40% until lock down then 65%-70% with spikes above that just to keep the humidity high. Temp has run 99.5-100. Have a 40 watt bulb hanging over incubator this hatch as seemed to be able to how 100 more constantly.

Also I am strongly considering leaving BYC. There are few things I will not eat, but every post I read about eating raw fish made a little puke come up in mouth each time. Sorry but not sure how much more I can take.

I draw the line if and when the conversation degrades to talking about raw chicken recipes.
