EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I only know how to do umbilical vessels on mammals, like humans and cats.  :hmm

I don't know how to tell if the thing is dried enough to cut safely.    I didn't want to tug on it and hurt the little guy while trying to look any closer. LOL

I can sanitize the cutters, that's not a problem.

I cut my last problem chick while it was still a bit pink.... There was far more risk in leaving it be.

Def no tugging.... His insides will come out!!

hey everybody, i just got back from mowing at my grandma's house, came down with a lovely sore throat.....

oh no!!! feel better

@BantyChooks I need help - my little chick who's last in the incubator is running all over th eplace, dragging her egg shell with her. She' fluffing up, but the umbilical is still firmly attached to the egg. I took some pictures, but i'm not sure how to safely detach it? She's up and moving and apparently ready to be away from her egg now.
just use your nails and pinch the cord and spit her away

And, we had success!! I cut it, no bleeding I seperated him from the egg, and she seems VERY happy to be detached. i also looked inside the egg, and it looks like almost non of the yolk had been absorbed.

I'm going to have to fluff her up and get her into the brooder to eat food/water ASAP.

Gonna give her a little bit of a break now that she's detached before putting her in there with the other chicks so she doesn't get trampled.
