EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Pool is ready! :weee :yesss:
400

Very nice. Mine's not. The filter needed repair. That happened this morning as well. And it's still far too cold to be swimming.

We just put in new tile and repainted. It looks so nice right now! It's only 65 today so not warm enough either.

Mine needs a whole new deck, tile etc. built in the early 70's. Didn't help a thing that it was built on fill with a huge embankment. When I first got here the back part of the deck had fallen 6 inches and was pulling away from the pool. I've since put a huge column of concrete under it and repoured a deck over the falling corner. I have threatened to fill it with dirt and put a garden in there every year.

It's 72* out so far today.

That's ok - you can stop at Buckee's and get some more!

Yes and no. It's always a pain not knowing who laid what, and I don't trap nest (too hot too often here, with me gone all day - I'd end up with dead birds). Mother Earth News had an article on DIY trap nests this month...

I've read a number of places to not add new genetics unless you have a VERY good reason - that sometimes it's better to be patient and work with what you have over time...

Also have read to add any new genetics in a side project first in case you don't like what you get. Have mostly heard it from folks who learned the hard way...
I've had enough eggs that varied a lot in the humidity they needed that I just weigh now.

 - I keep falling as well, though I think that's because I'm too tired...

How'd that work out for you?

x2!!!!

Pretty!!!! :love

I've been working to get the growout tractor done, and it's been taking forever - all these little things that take time. But it's together and covered now. Still need to add sweet PDZ to the roost platform, bedding to the bottom, feeder and waterer with chains, and the aprons. (Oh, and the door spring - need to head to Lowes for that). Came in for a quick lunch of brisket, but that might have been a mistake. I think I'm slipping into a food coma.  :th

Thanks I do have her in a separate group of the three groups. Her egg is very easy to tell. It's a little rougher than the rest. Wasn't impressed with the spacing on the pelvic bones with her.
This time when I fell I had completely forgotten that it was so slick. Only thing on my mind was to get her back in the coop. We both landed in a heap of mud and feathers. :lau
Just stopped for lunch. Out to do some mowing and fix the styrofoam bator for lockdown of my Dark Cornish.
