EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My pops says you cut them and not pull from the root for best chance to grow back next year. Maybe Bill and I will make it up north this year for a Morel trip :drool    Our first date it was Memorial weekend but this year with the mild winter we expect it to be several weeks sooner.

Awesome that's what I've been doing with the ones still rooted. The others three had come loose.

Good morning Peter. Sorry-ran out of the house to an appointment I didn't apparently have at 8am! :th Luckily her 8 didn't show so I got my OT in :)  Glad I did! My hand did something else very strange at therapy. My 1st 2 fingers and knuckles during therapy turned into what looked like wax! :/    I am glad she is seeing this so I don't look like I am crazy when I try to describe these things! :eek:

:eek:
Just wow. :hugs

@SallySunshine

Congrats on the new bator. Hope you enjoy it. Unfortunately I don't think you would be interested in any of my mutts either. I enjoy them but they would be a disapointment to most I'm sure.

In other news I think all of my research on DIY bators is starting to run together. Primarily thermostats and placement thereof. For wafers is placement critical, seems like that was more for probes and hot water heater set ups. Finally got all the last bits and pieces together but am trying to finalize thermo placement.

Yes white birch, they're usually on the tree, this one was on a big root. It's parasitic, I pop them off without damaging the tree. The tree's can live fine with them, but I've seen many YouTube vids of people using hatchets and hacking into the tree to get every bit of it which damages and can kill the tree. Removed the way I do I read the Chaga will grow back eventually and can be harvested again, probably a decade..
Chaga is the most potent antioxidant on the planet, way more than blueberries, goji or acai.

Does it take a decade to grow back or will it keep growing new ones for a decade?

I'm so pleased to find that some of the iris bulbs from my mom's garden survived being run over and chopped apart by my brother. There aren't nearly as many as there were when she was here taking care of her yard, but it does the heart good to see them peaking through. (Now, to get my brother to leave them alone this year, or move them to my yard after they stop blooming.)
We have a sweet pea here that belonged to the mom of the former owner. Always special to have a plant that means something. My mother in law almost destroyed it as well. I also have a rose geranium that my dad had since he was 5. It's just a slip of a slip of a slip but still. Maybe it's an apple blossom type.

thanks and Hello Paddler! Unfortunately we only use coal, typically turned lower at night and when he leaves at 530 he will stoke it and throw more heat, and then later morning I will turn it down a bit. Been using coal since I was 27 so fairly used to how to burn it, but man it takes some learning for sure.
You have a coal chute, or you lugging it in a bucket at a time?
