EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Belated thanks, MC!!!
She's one of about 6 fully feathers chicks that were added as "padding" with the NNs - she was hoping most would be girls that could be put with my suitably colored NN roosters. All but this girl are boys, though.:he

I do - I went to my cardiology appointment that afternoon, only to find that they had messed up and he was in another office that day, so I headed back home. It was still just blocks form home, but I don't like to drive with a migraine - even across the street is dangerous if you're unsteady.

Leg color is genetic - white is dominant, lack of both copies of that gene (forget the name of it) gives yellow legs. Several different breeds went into creating these, including Speckeld Sussex, which are white legged. But the goal for Alohas is yellow legs...

:hugs :hugs :hugs

:love

Migraine continued through the evening and overnight and into today, so I stayed home, in pain in bed until about 3:30. Horrible day. But I was able to get up and get the necessary stuff done. Discovered that the severely stunted and "not normal" chick in the S&G NN brooder had been attacked badly, big wounds near vent. Tried some first aid, but when I took him back, it was clear that there was a good chance of him being eviscerated overnight (probably because he's abnormal). I ended up culling him (he was 1/4 the size of the others and not quite right). It was necessary,  but is always a little bit sad.

You are welcome.
I saw pics. The hives were so bad, I almost regurgitated.
I'm sorry about your head and bird. :hugs

I thought you should feed raw potato peels to chickens?

Green skins. They aren't good for humans either!

Hi all! Quick question---I have had my first chick hatch tonight in my Brinsea Maxi II Advance. It is a smaller incubator, I know, but do y'all think it's ok that my new chick is in there with 5 other externally pipped eggs and kicking and rolling them around? What if their pips end up on the underside? I'm worried and want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Please seek professional help now.  Do not delay, you are not well.  The delusion demonstrated in this sentence is a matter of life and death. Please call the help line and get a ride in.  Do not worry about what to wear, they will provide a nice white canvass jacket for you.

I like snow, it means it has warmed up enough to actually have it. Plus it is nicer than 90°F weather :sick

Bubbls you have MAGICAL forces over Ralphie! Good for you! :lau

FIRST CHICK. ALMOST 2 DAYS EARLY. I think that they are fine even with the time difference. He zipped in less than 15 minutes, already walking after 20. Seems very healthy. Only 2 other pipped but I think that more will come with this good news.
(I am hatching bourbon red turkeys)
It is the first chick of the year. Lets go.
I will post pictures tomorrow afternoon.
