Hi all,
I have a question for you.
I am hatching some eggs for a family member that lives 1 hour away.
I would like to transport the eggs(yes eggs, not hatched chicks) to her before they hatch. Strange as it may seem, her kiddos want to see them hatch.
Now before you say I should have planned better, save your breath. I know, I know, prior planning was not done!!!
I have no problem with this transporting to her, however I am not sure at what point the embryo could handle a little movement. I have a inverter that will plug into my car, so I will be able to keep them in the brinsea octogan incubator.
The temp is no problem. My issue is with the embryo and when it is able to withstand some movement. Of course it would have been easier to have started them at her house, but why make things easy on me??
They are on day 5, and all are developing nicely so far.
Also if anyone has done something crazy like this, how did you wrap them to protect them from too much jarring.
Any help appriected
-Nellie
You won't be the first to move eggs mid-incubation. Two and a half years ago, I almost hatched in a semi. Encouraged by this group!
If it's smooth paved roads, you should be fine as is. If it makes you feel better, pack a towel into the incubator. The eggs can stand one hour of cool down anyway. So if you can't fit the lid on, no worries!
Cute chicks, soph! Love the EEs, they're always the cutest as babies.
