EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, it seemed the best way to express it. Though I'm thinking in retrospect it didn't contain enough . I'd seek out copious amounts of adult beverages, but I'm getting old, so I would probably just fall asleep on the sofa and then have a bad headache in the morning. So, tea it is.

I want geese! (And I also want a fairy godmother who will come and take care of them...)

Time for chores. I already had my mandatory Puppy hug today - she was in the paddock, saw me, and literally while I was watching she jumped over 5 vertical feet and cleared the fence. She got game.... then she came up to me and got picked up and got snuggles and face rubs (which she adores). :love

I hope her offspring is as awesome as she is.

Chooks were posing beautifully today.

When did your mower die?

I need some help. I had a muscovy pip 48 hrs ago, ive read the entire thread of assisting hatch. Even to the point i zipped for her since she pipped at the wrong end. Should i chip more of the shell away? She is talking like crazy and my fiance and i are constantly talk to her.
Hello! @MartinsPoultry :frow I'm not familiar with ducks...but if a chick pipped at the wrong end, I would chip the shell away at least halfway down so it can pop out. Those breech babies can't get out with that small end. Maybe someone with ducks could chime in on this one...

@BantyChooks or someone with ducks...could you confirm?

If the eggs are porous...this egg may do the best since it won't lose volume as quickly. For me, the porous ones succumb before they make it to lock down...and if they do make it to that point...they've lost too much volume already and the chick can't make it. I have no luck with porous ones. I wish you better luck! :fl

I have noticed that starting at dry hatch 30% seems a bit too dry this season. I have been starting at 40% to allow a slower air cell development.

You are right that this egg being upside-down has a smaller air cell. That is definitely interesting. If there is no issue, would this be an option for porous eggs? To incubate air cell down for the first week?
