EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

In my mind it was less about worrying about chemical leaching per se, and more that if it made the water smell or taste bad they wouldn't drink it or drink enough...
These have much smaller pads (that photo was in a little 4 or 6' pot) - prickly pear are these giant things and also in prickly pear, you can see the thorns more easily. In the bunny ear cactus, it truly just looks soft and fuzzy until you grab it because they are so small. (Prickly pear are weeds here, and so hard to get rid of because even a single pad that falls to the ground will root. There's actually an additional surcharge when taking your brush to a recycling place if it includes prickly pear.)

Well, I can't vouch for the taste:p, but the odor went away rapidly. I admit, I scrub often w/Palmolive dish soap, and if poopy I follow up with a bleach soak.
They seem to drink plenty!

We have prickly pear up here in the wild they have real small "leafs".... I was thinking those might be larger than the prickly pear... Thanks

BTW they are protected up here as they are hard to keep alive over the winters, I assume global warming is killing them,,,,:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

I use this, hang from the middle beam of the conduit "roof" and hang a large bucket from it - works EXTREMELY well, quite accurate, will hold the weight once it's locked in (very nice when dealing with an unhappy chicken who doesn't want to be in a bucket).

Very high tech. I'll get a picture of mine when home. Weight is accurate against a 5 pound bag of flour

Brownie and 2 of her chicks (the other was hiding)

Very nice!!!

Me too. I'd walked by him three times and I looked down and there he was sleeping! I'm so glad he was asleep!

That reminds me of the time there was a BIG viper right in between our house and the swings. One of my (very young) little bros rode his bike right next to it, almost on it. And this one was not asleep, at all! It was scary.

We got the guineas after that. :p
