EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

You all will never believe this, but...

I have had an empty incubator for nearly a month now.

See, I said I could stop whenever I wanted too, and I did. :ya

So, what if it's only a month.... Let me revel in my amazing self control for a bit.
You're right....I don't

I know as a medical person you will go nuts on this..BUT my measuring system is dump enough in to make e happy. pump it and spray it..

I use 1 ounce to a gallon of water for disinfecting eggs (I actually measure) I use stronger in the pens as I figure it can't hurt to over do it.

Nope - I just figured that you are careful re: your birds and disease stuff. More sounds good. In the lab, the standard is to use 10% bleach to disinfect, so I'll just default to that, I think.

WAIT!

If you are told to expect the unexpected, then what about the expected, are you then told to unexpect that?

Well I got all five processed in about 3-1/2 hours or so - not bad. Needless to say, plucking was a LOT easier after scalding (never dry plucking again). They are resting nicely in the cooler with a bunch of ice now. Quiet day for the remaining three - they're trying to figure out what the heck happened. But I did find a bunch of scrapes and bruises on some of these under the feathers (did you know a chicken bruise is turquoise?!), confirming that their lives had been rough the past few days - they had a quiet day in the holding pens before the end, so there's at least that (though the ones who made the list for biting reaffirmed their place on the cull list - grumpy until the end).

I think I'm gonna watch a movie now. Something action-y so I don't have to think much...:pop

Harry Potter? :p

Library tomorrow... I'm gonna 'splode. Haven't managed to convince anyone to tell me what happens yet.

ETA: I did know that about the bruises. Sorta neat, huh?

Glad you got it over with and relaxing now! I thought everyone did the scalding thing. I've only done it twice though so . . what do I know lol

So - we are officially having twins for now. Unless we have vanishing twin, we should see heartbeats by friday-next week. I go friday and then again wed for follow ups for better measurements and to find a heartbeat.

Doctor down here is super awesome. I just wish he could deliver me, but hospital down here won't allow vbacs, or twin deliveries. :(
