I've lived around a lot of livestock and had a lot of biting flies but don't think we have a big problem with those like it sounds like you have.

They fly threw the screens. They make a special titanium screen that has extra small holes but the weave is so tight it blocks the air flow too. Rumor has it they cannot digest Titanium.

Mosquitoes aren't half as bad. Even when I'm covered in mosquito bites I can get relief from benadryl.... With the black flies, you just have to sit there in agony.

Chew thru is my guess.
