EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Shocking, isn't it? I wasn't quite sure if talking about chickens was allowed here, but I figured I'd take my chances.
You just go right on & say anything you want to; if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to read it. On the other hand, if they don't read it, how will they know they don't like it? I'll have to think about that for a spell.

disregard day 7 and 14... And on 18 it is too late to worry....

BTW watch the humidity with summer hatching. I have the auto humidity device turned off and a dehumidifier running in the room with the incubators. It is still running 35%.
Disregard day 7 and 14 because? The eggs all appear viable with movement and blood flow, minus the one with what appears to be a blood ring. I marked that one to check again. And the 2-3 saddle, which I'll just watch and only take action if it is necessary.
I'm not quite understanding the air cell and its position in the egg. Maybe because they are very small polish eggs. I have not added any water as the humidity is doing well between 31-40% without any. I have the top air holes open for good oxygen and one vent plug. I can remove the other on day 10 to boost the oxygen.
Thank you!!

A lot of us couldn't find their vent plugs if their lives depended on it.

You have a vent?
Could not imagine that you are so old, that you still have the reptilian system!
:lau ( :hugs )
"If it ain't broke, why fix it?"
I still have a tube radio, a wringer washer, & a wood-fired cook stove, too. Just retired the outhouse last year when the hole filled up; converted it to a hen house

He's saying don't candle because he is of the opinion it will introduce bacteria and harm the eggs. It won't if you're careful. ;)
It's a matter of great debate among those that hatch eggs. You have to come to your own decision eventually on whether or not to candle. I suggest candling anyway while you're learning what humidity levels to keep in your incubator.

What about it is confusing you? The air cell is at the blunt end of the egg.

Friend of mine moved a few years back and didn't have anywhere to put the chooks... She stuck them in her outhouse until they got a proper coop built.
