These are some of the youngest group of Reds I hatched earlier this spring. They're 13-15 weeks old in this video. I see a lot potential in a many of these chicks, so I'll have my work cut out for me in late fall when it's time to select the keepers.

Nah... the dogs dragged me in because the cats wouldn't touch me. They just kept trying to cover me up! LOL!!!

I can't complain. I've been doing pretty good for me... I'm trying to keep my nose clean and not break too many laws. I've had a lot going on lately with work and the chicken farming. I have 50 RIR chicks to deal with now, along with the older birds, so that takes up a good bit of my "free" time. I tried to link my FB video here, but it said the file couldn't be played, so I deleted the post. I'm uploading to YouTube now and will put the video up as soon as it's done. I know it's not incubating or hatching, but there is a connection since it all started with incubating and hatching. I won't be hatching year-round any more, since purebred reds are more or less a seasonal type of bird. I have to hatch early in order to pick my keepers in late fall/early winter. This is typically the time breeders sell their excess birds. Not saying I'm a true blue breeder, but I'm working on it...

I very rarely candle and never before day 11.

Figured I could do one more hatch this year and filled (with double stacking) the bator~ 160 eggs.
Life got busy and last weekend I figured I should candle and unstack the stacked eggs, only to find there were already 50++ chicks hatched.
Long story short, most hatched, sold 3 chicks for $50 and gave the rest to a nice guy. He was very happy!

Moral of story- neglect works - set and forget (well try to remember when you set them).

I hate when I have a bird hatch in the incubator! That means hours of disinfecting and cleaning the incubator instead of my normal fast clean up....
