EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Uh. Sure! We'll go with that!
Well, isn't that a coincidence... I'm just chilling on my back porch swing, and I'm almost there...

Heya how are you
I'm doing really good. Just staying busy with work and chicken farming... lol!

Figured I could do one more hatch this year and filled (with double stacking) the bator~ 160 eggs.
Life got busy and last weekend I figured I should candle and unstack the stacked eggs, only to find there were already 50++ chicks hatched.
Long story short, most hatched, sold 3 chicks for $50 and gave the rest to a nice guy. He was very happy!

Moral of story- neglect works - set and forget (well try to remember when you set them).

I've had a few forgotten hatches go well. Glad you were able to rehome them quick.

**** ANOUNCEMENT****

The garage is a chick free zone

:celebrate:wee:ya

:woot

Does anyone here know how exactly a crayfish ended up in my yard? :hmm It's very much alive, the kids have it in a bucket.

looking for water to get back into.

Ah! I wondered if that was the concern. I work in neurodiagnostics and am meticulous when it comes to infection control. ;) that includes my babies!
This is sort of embarrassing but I can't tell what I'm looking for! lol I think one spot is an air cell then I'm not sure.

Here are a bunch of links to candling pictures, maybe they will help.

Never, ever underestimate the determination of a crayfish! LOL!!!

I'm giving it my best shot, whites. I have formed a pretty darn good support group through the Rhode Island Red Club of America, and the president of the club (from whom I got my birds) is a phone call away. My goal is to make him proud he entrusted his hard work (aka: chickens) to me.

Why thank you very much, Bubbles... err... Banty! I really like what I'm seeing in my chicks. I see a lot of flat backs and most of the males have the "brick" shape to their bodies that sets them apart from all other breeds. Here's a video of the youngest group of chicks:

Hi Joey! :frow The birds look great!

I have a few eggs that just hatched. I'm waiting for them to get out of their shells completely and fluff up so I can move them to the brooder. I lost 2-3 who died in shells shortly after pipping, but the rest are doing well.

EEs?

Give me 4 + 3 good reasons
1. It might make others start talking.
2. If you take naps before bed it makes it hard to get to sleep.
3. I asked you to.
4. You can't talk while you're asleep.
5. If you don't wake up I'll snitch your coffee
6. You can't candle your eggs enough when you're asleep.
7. You did say 4 + 3, right?
