Figured I could do one more hatch this year and filled (with double stacking) the bator~ 160 eggs.
Life got busy and last weekend I figured I should candle and unstack the stacked eggs, only to find there were already 50++ chicks hatched.
Long story short, most hatched, sold 3 chicks for $50 and gave the rest to a nice guy. He was very happy!
Moral of story- neglect works - set and forget (well try to remember when you set them).

Does anyone here know how exactly a crayfish ended up in my yard? It's very much alive, the kids have it in a bucket.
Ah! I wondered if that was the concern. I work in neurodiagnostics and am meticulous when it comes to infection control.that includes my babies!
This is sort of embarrassing but I can't tell what I'm looking for! lol I think one spot is an air cell then I'm not sure.
Never, ever underestimate the determination of a crayfish! LOL!!!
I'm giving it my best shot, whites. I have formed a pretty darn good support group through the Rhode Island Red Club of America, and the president of the club (from whom I got my birds) is a phone call away. My goal is to make him proud he entrusted his hard work (aka: chickens) to me.
Why thank you very much, Bubbles... err... Banty! I really like what I'm seeing in my chicks. I see a lot of flat backs and most of the males have the "brick" shape to their bodies that sets them apart from all other breeds. Here's a video of the youngest group of chicks:
I have a few eggs that just hatched. I'm waiting for them to get out of their shells completely and fluff up so I can move them to the brooder. I lost 2-3 who died in shells shortly after pipping, but the rest are doing well.
