EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

This first chickens we ever had were hatched in a incubator we made out of stuff laying around the house. Hatching them was one of the top greatest experiences of my life, but the 2 that hatched were (of course) both boys. Rehoming animals is not something we'd ever even considered before (even the most horrid & obnoxious animals can stay on the broom.) We kept them for as long as we possibly could, but eventually had to rehome them. It was beyond heart wrenching! We accidentally bought another 2 day old cockerel somewhere down the line & had to rehome him too. :hitI would love to hatch some more, but I just cant take he heartache.

Rehoming is always hard. It makes me sad with roos especially because roos are so pretty! I want to keep them around just because I love looking at them, even though I know it's not practical.

So my husband and I got into a discussion today, about our plans for the birth. Dr has given us a 50-75% chance of not making it to the hospital, and after talking to my labor/doula team who helped in my last pregnancy, my ONLY traditional pregnancy sign, was hot flashes, and those happened 15 minutes before baby was born. Prior to that, I had no active labor signs, no regular contractions. I just went from 0-60, and baby out, in 30 minutes roughly.
My husband slept through my entire labor, I woke him up right around 6am, and baby was delivered at 6:28... he expected me to know "are you okay" meant "should we head to the hospital" and when he asked me, I felt fine, so I told him I felt fine. It changed a few minutes later, but by then, he was catching the baby.

My doctor won't induce, due to being a vbac, and there's a good chance since I have a history of sleeping through my labors, (including until 10CM with one birth.) that I could wake up having a baby.

I was waiting for my water to break, because my water broke with #2, and I gave birth 47 minutes later, I was 3 miles from the hospital, figured I'd have time to head over there.... but with #4, my water broke and her head and shoulders came out with the water. LOL

So, we've been having to discuss alternative ways of figuring out if I'm in labor.

Hmmmm.... I'm really torn ... in a way I am feeling for you, but in another way, I really don't like you right now. (You know I mean that in the most loving way, right?) :plbb

Yes, I know, painless labors are a real thing. Mine are completely painless for the most part, until I'm pushing and that happens so fast, It's over in just a few minutes. I can understand why women would hate me. What's funny, is I don't mind endorphin runs from pushing my body, like a runners high, so i've always felt a little let down with my labors that they aren't text book. I've never had to use breathing techniques, or any of the fun stuff women talk about.
LOL

My husband and I are in disagreement because i don't want to be forced to have an IV - and he thinks it's dumb to even ask them to let me sign a medical waiver, he told me to just have another out of hospital birth and meander over there when baby was out, instead of arguing with them. ^.^

I haven't brought up the "you realize you'd be helping me deliver it" yet

Wow that's crazy! How about a midwife?
My labor wasn't painless but from all the horror stories I've heard I think I had it pretty easy. I think it was Gods way of making up for all the hell I had to go through during pregnancy. I have what's called an incompetent cervix and lost my first baby because of it. So the second time it was weekly visits to the Dr. And horrible not normal ultra sounds. . I won't explain for the guys sake but you know I'm sure. Then at about 10 weeks in had to go have things stitched shut down there so the baby wouldn't fall out. Lol. Bed rest for two weeks and went back to work until I got the stitches out a few days before she was due. But I guess it had it's up side. . labor didn't last long and wasn't too hard. The nurse almost sent me home actually she didn't believe me that I was in labor until the Dr. Said I was dilated to 8 already! If I would have been sent home I would have probably had her in the car trying to get back to the hospital lol

We had a homebirth with a midwife with #2.
I've been unable in Tx, to find one who'd travel 3 hours to our current location, and insurance won't cover out of hospital births so we'd be paying out of pocket for a lay midwife, and if we are already traveling 3+ hours, I might as well make our insurance cover it, because if we have to travel, pay for hotel rooms, child care and all sorts of other crap, it ends up costing WAY too much out of pocket.

Our insurance covers 100% of the birth and all I pay is 300 max for baby and I for a hospital stay to be checked out and all labs, shots, everything else is 100% covered.

We accidentally delivered our last baby. So he's like "why not just do it again." LOL

I have low progesterone and an irritable cervix, so I dilate slowly, have lots of contractions the entire pregnancy, and then when it decides to stop screwing off, it goes fast. :/

I lost a twin at 24 weeks, after giving birth because I slept through my entire labor with them and ended up with an emergency c-section because I walked in 10cm dilated. (Well, he lived for 3 weeks, so died technically at "27" weeks gestational age.)
