EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Ohhhhh those make excellent fly trap bait. So gladly clean them for you. :lau
Here's picture with what I hoped would be fix. It's the 90 right at the zip tie. They have constantly bent that part of the rod plate down to where I now have to bend it back every time there's a catch. Now after checking this picture it's actually where the plate attaches to the bottom of cage. Or both.
Bummer on the rats.

Do you have a small key chain ring handy?

So the broodies plural hatch has started. The eggs that have been push out were collected as well. They seem to be in various stages no surprise there as this wil be a staggered hatch. Put 7 eggs in with the chicks. The other hens in with the chicks are pecking on the chicks as expected so I'm collecting throughout the day. 20 more eggs under two to three hens.

I set a app Sally mention on my phone when we set them on Friday Sept 1st at 12pm Mo time. According to app they were 15 1/2 days developed at last candling. I'll have to compare some to online pics cause we were looking to bump RH up to 60% tomorrow and pull the off turners and lock down tomorrow night. (Monday 12 pm is start of day 18.) We were a little worried cause we have read sometimes silkies hatch sooner. We do appreciate feedback cause were are new to this and these eggs mean too much too us to really be using our first go arround with a incubator.

No problem we still know you've been around and are pretty knowledgeable.

Hatchabatch? That might explain it, they're off by at least a day.

I agree with wicked, they do look rather behind for a day 15 egg.

Might try sifting the ground stuff if mixing it with water doesn't work
I bought some gro gel + B I'll make a mash, with a high grade chick starter I use and see if they like that. Any time frame on taking that away? I would be concerned of bacterial growth after a few hours? I did have my one bearded d'uccle really enjoying that.

I made what they could eat during the day while I was gone. Then made more for the night feeding. Never thought about bacteria. Didn't seem to bother them.

I was thinking the same.

So if they set 2 days after the showed up then we set them on a warmed up incubator on September 1st at noon cst. Today is September 17th. How do you ever figure out what day your on?
