EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

So tired. First got sick with a breast infection (that I'm still trying to overcome) which shot my supply to all heck. Then Honeybee had to be rushed to the hospital for excessive vomiting while we were supplementing with formula. Turns out he's got infant lactose intolerance and needs special formula. It's been a rough week, pray for me.

ETA: I just thank god that he's been a strong little man. And that I'm at least not having to deal with the heartbreak my mom had to go through when I was sick in the hospital at only two days old with what was suspected to be blood poisoning (they never did figure out what it was or what treatment helped it.)
Oh that's rotten :( I'm guessingthe infection wasn't mastitis? I hope you can get your milk supply back up. Lactose intolerance in infants is so rare! I'm sorry you two are going through this. :hugs Hope it all works out and you get some well deserved rest!

Found a crop feeding diagram. Gotta get some fluids into my little hernia chick. He's not eating/drinking. I've got a small syringe feeder used for supplement nursing that will be the right size. What would be best for getting hydration/enegry into this little guy? Juice? Water with a little sugar/salt? Plain water? Water with egg yolk mixed in? Has to be fluid, my tube is too thin otherwise.

Yesterday was a very productive day. Hoping to sort through some more roosters today.
Temps pushing 70* here rain expected tomorrow. Hope to get more done before it comes in. Last storm brought 3.5 inches.

We've been getting plenty of rain ourselves. They take the lake down to 992' for winter, the summer pool is 997', it was back up to 999+', now it's just over 997', I guess they'll eventually get it down.

I'm glad you found the information, I was going to tag casportpony, she's very good with the medical care.

What a couple of days.. Geeze.. an anemic goat with hypothermia, catastrophic flooding, digging trenches, pumping out lakes that didn't exist last week and now the incubation batch that was due on Thanks Giving is majorly hatching today on Saturday... The people who prepaid this batch has a disconnected phone number. Since they are paid for, I am putting an ad on craigslist for free chicks. I don't need any more mouths right now.

I can bet this debate on the em dash is driving you slightly insane -- I know it is me. I am unable to type an em dash, I use a keyboard without a numeric keyboard and firefox as my browser. I found an add on-- but it is outdated and will not work on my computer.

Personally--notice I need to use 2 dashes and pretend they are an em dash-- I think people that advocate the em dash are too lazy to use proper punctuation. Why not use the comma or colon or semis colon of several commas,,,,,,unless you don;t know what to use and want to use the em dash to cover you inability to use real creative punctuation. Heck,,,,,,,I have gotten through all my years without really needing a em dash,,,,,,,,,also I am not artistic so it i hard for me to tell the difference in the length of the different dashes so I just consider them all "dashes".........But then I am smarter than the normal em dash advocate.....:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig

BTW there is a 5:1 chance someone living on the shores of the arctic ocean in the VWN will have a near coronary event when reading this......
TWO HYPHENS DO NOT MAKE AN EM DASH.

Poor birds had to eat gluten free bread. :lau
It was gluten bread from the neighbours, lol.

Does anyone have the link/picture for how to syringe feed without aspirating a chick? I thought I saw someone post it here a little while back...

@BantyChooks was it you that posted it?

Not me, sorry.
