Day 18 for the broody and her eggs. I'm hoping they're viable, it's gotten fairly cold & I've never tried to let anything brood in these nest boxes before.
The dog is overweight, and had to be put on leave.![]()

Hey there!! NIce AVY!!! How are you and the kritters? How did your kidding season go?
With my styro ovens, it's the big viewing windows that are the source of temp variations. Last season I had a couple early feathered rats running around thinking they were in a bowling alley, so I placed a couple cardboard box flaps cut perfect to the size of the plex glass widows, in an attempt to cut out light to calm them down. My temp shot up like a rocket. Had to open the lid for a couple minutes. Much of my success comes from stabilizing the room temperature. Grandson helped ruin my Easter Hatch.. oh well.Maybe poor insulation in my Hova Bators is the reason for the variance in temps for both of them, even with them completely closed up for days at a time; viewing windows let me check everything w/o popping the top. I always thought the variance was 'cause the thermostat is so touchy. Being 100% styrofoam, & fairly thick, at that, I'd think they'd be sufficiently insulated.
lol, I keep a towel under both of my LG's because they leak..I’ve found that putting a folded towel under the styrofoam incubator that the temps were better kept.
That’s the original reason I started the towels. But they did better with them so I continued even when we put them in plastic tables. The plastic table are not insulatedlol, I keep a towel under both of my LG's because they leak..
Kinda tough to stabilize room temp here. If I close the door the room temp is in the high 50s. If I leave the door open the room temp eventually matches whatever the temp in the rest of the basement is, which depends on how hard the stove's working. With my styro ovens, it's the big viewing windows that are the source of temp variations.
