EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, the broodies' eggs were due to hatch today. I keep looking out in the coop but haven't seen any babies yet. I did hear some peeps though, so there is at least 1 chick out there. Hopefully the hens will let me have a look in the morning. The incubator eggs are due to hatch tomorrow, so hopefully they will not make me wait too long. :)

I agree. Nothing to be done but wait.
The cabinet incubator I built has crazy overkill on both controllers and high wattage heat elements. It will come to temperature and maintain in about 15 minutes no matter how many eggs are in it.
Depending on the incubator, IMHO when eggs are introduced to an incubator that is holding steady there is nothing to do but sit on one's hands till it settles down. An empty incubator that is holding steady will be in a tailspin when that mass of cool eggs goes in.
I've been extremely busy. I drove to Arkansas and brought home 3 bee hive nuclei. I've been trying to install them when the temp creeps up close to 70 so the brood doesn't get chilled but am able to prevent them swarming.
Trying to build trap nests and roll out nests for 5 coops.
I was recruited to join a second pool league because their best player had to switch shifts at his job.
For Wednesday's league, tonight is the first night of playoffs.
For Thursday's league, I'm sure we'll make the playoffs but we have to do well the last 2 weeks.

Ran into a gentleman last night at TSC that started raising bees because his fruit trees weren't producing. He said last year he got his best harvest yet. Deb asked if he sells any honey, he said he has 10 kids and I forget how many grandkids, so what he gets now is used up by family. Not sure how she started talking to him. I try to tell her get the things on the list, check out, get out. But somehow there is always talking.

Sounds like it was all her doing, for sure :lau

In speaking with seller she promptly boxed up today’s eggs and is shipping tomorrow. Cost of shipping only. Didn’t want anymore money even though it wasn’t her fault. I’ll be sending her a couple pens.

That's nice of you to send her pens, I'd think they are more valuable than the eggs. I actually have a mini lathe with an extension. I haven't made anything useful with it, but I can make a mess really quick when I want to. :lau
