Thanks to both. Of course rain in forecast for the next 10 days won’t help get the roof done but we will get there.Good news on your house and that looks fantastic
That is a lot of work for one person!it's that I haven't learned did not be so over committed and work so hard. it's not just the physical energy, it's just a can't deal with anymore. My alarm goes off at 4:15 in the morning at the latest so that I can get up and ready, feed babies, milk goats, take care of the rest of the chores, get the fire going, and feed the babies again before do I go to work for 12 hours. Then when I get home in the evening first thing I have to do is feed the babies then go out of milk does come in and put the milk in to pasteurize, put the laundry associated with the baby goats in the laundry, go back out to feed the bucks, does, horse, chickens, cows, and barn cat. then I come back in and deal with the pasteurized milk get the milk ready to feed the babies again do all the associated dishes. Then I have a few minutes between when I have that done and I need to feed them again before I go to bed. In theory in that time I could cook a meal on do more dishes but there's always things to do around the house and I'm just done by then so it doesn't happen.
I have been trying to find a college student who would be willing to live for free who would either be interested in helping with some of the stuff outside or some of the stuff inside and exchange for a place to live but I don't want just anybody so I don't advertise so so far that's not happened.
I am very hopeful that we get the property in Alaska sold this year. If I can take my mortgage and expenses way down then I want shorter hours at work. Or just a different job. I also have to decide at some point this year exactly how many goats I can reasonably manage and if I'm going to get rid of the CAE does that are more work to keep it from spreading.
Thank you!Neat work!
you really need to get an automatic one best hundred fifty bucks you'll spend. You never have to worry if your chickens are going to be shut up in time or if you forgot and you don't have to worry in the morning if you've got to leave early it's great. and like somebody told me if you have to replace your whole flock you're out more that. Thanks to both. Of course rain in forecast for the next 10 days won’t help get the roof done but we will get there.
On the chicken front. The coops inside door is up I need to build the small door to their run yet hoping to get one of those automatic ones some day. Then secure the hardware cloth and move the 15 Bielefelders in, probably tomorrow.
Definitely going to look into one. It will have to be after the rest of tree work is done. Several more need to come down before they blow down.you really need to get an automatic one best hundred fifty bucks you'll spend. In the past, I’ve put chicks, poults and ducklings out in January-February with the temperature below freezing. Some as young as a week. They didn’t use the heat lamp, so I stopped offering.
These babies were all pasty butt for the first week. They may be more fragile. They also aren’t in the big coop like the others. Being 2 1/2 weeks, I thought they could deal. Until an hour ago, all was fine. They were moving around, eating and drinking. Then they got loud, and were piling up. The heat lamp was added (a feat in itself) and turned on, then off. Yada yada, It’s on, but the chicks aren’t going near it.I saw a chick on the bottom of the pile. Her bottom has been pecked. It’s not awful, but it certainly hurts. She’s warming up in a towel on my chest.
If the chicks aren’t going to the heat, why are they acting crazy?
You can't freeze vacum .Their brain is frozen.![]()
