EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I also ordered some hermit crabs and supplies. It’s a pain trying to find reputable sources for that stuff!
My current two crabs are ... hmmmmmmmmmm. Three years, and two. I ordered three more crabs and 29,764 shells. I think I picked nine.
I’m only telling you because; it’s a dead thread, it’s late, and because someone does care, but won’t ask.

Hi, I am not necessarily new here, been MIA since 2014 :th

I have since lost all my flock as they refused to go in there coop and they know roam free on another property  They are basically wild birds now and I see them occassionally but were never very tame.

I have ordered this incubator, I am now looking for some fertilised eggs to start my flock as I want to be able to raise them to be friendly. We are also going to build a run for them, but I am also looking at prices of ready made ones and may even get them.

The breeds I am looking at are either the Plymouth Rock or the Barnevelder as they are the ones that are possibly the best for our family, are friendly and can be tamed to allow to be held and also do the best in confined spaces. Am open to any other ideas also, but they do have to have nice roosters that are not aggressive.

Used to have them. Back in the 80's. Kids. Wait... early 2000's too.

Welcome Back! Barney's are great. I loved my leghorns! Always had to have one in my flock. Very..very..friendly! Always right there with you. An egg a day!

My first three (one died after a year) came from a little girl that wasn’t into crabs anymore. Duckling likes them, but hasn’t played with them in a while. My bad!
If I get the 55 gal set up, I can add even more toys!

Welcome back!
Nice incubator! :thumbsup
For easy fencing, you can do T-posts and wire. Or, put together a PVC run. Deer netting is easier to work with than bird netting. It can be used for the whole thing! Just remember to lock up the flock at night. Predators can chew through the plastic. Of course, even chicken wire is easy to get through, but I am sure you remember that.

You had red jungle fowl? I was planning on having them run free I'm my woods with a shed to sleep in at night. I have been having a hard time finding red jungle fowl lately. Thanks I calibrated my fish tank thermometer. I think I got it pretty close.
I got them from someone who got the eggs from the San Diego Zoo. There may be people about who still have them.
They were very cool. Small birds that fly well.

I've found the Orpingtons to be pretty friendly, at least the ones I have. Only had minimal trouble with the rooster before he settled down.

Whatever you get, do yourself a huge favor & get all your facilities squared away prior to getting birds; no fun being under pressure to get finished before the occupants are on site.
Good luck!
