EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Quote: I hope you get to celebrate at least 50 years!

I have a "technical" question. We have propane here and I bought a propane garage heater for the seramas and chicks this winter. There is no existing line to the garage that I know of. The dryer is near that wall. Does anybody know who i call to get it safely hooked up and running and how much they think it might cost?
I believe it would be a plumber, no idea on the cost.

If you are going to mess with propane, I'd highly recommend having a specialist coming out and hooking it up for you. Propane can be a tricky substance to work with, and is a fire hazard if done wrong.
yup-thats why i want to hire it out-but who do I call. I know if it's an electric line i call an electrician but who do i call for propane??

bills grandma was extremely wealthy. His dad & mom are so blue collar & humble and the best parents I could ask for. It was sad to watch some of the other kids fight over money when she passed last year. Bill and I saved & bought a home big enough to where if his mom & dad ever get sick or old, they could come live with us very comfortably & we could take care of them the way they helped me and Bill. I am very blessed

Start with the company you will buy your propane from,,, they will be the best place to start

Thanks everyody-that makes sense. I bought another electric heater but I think propane will stil be a lot warmer and cheaper in the long run. or I may have to run both-babies gotta stay warm!!!! (little babies are kept in the spare bedroom-bigger babies have the 3rd part of the garage). Coop people called-not coming on Halloween now-wed 11/3 instead. its ok I'm in no hurry. Just want to separate the free ranges before winter and mating and stuff.....

I have chicks hatching right now
wee.gif

The first hatched early hours of this morning, it's perfectly healthy. The second chick hatched about an hour ago, but it has a bloody navel.

There is also a small piece of egg shell stuck to the umbilical. Its toes look slightly crooked, if they don't straighten out I'll make shoes for it.

I also have this egg, which pipped at the same time as the first chick (around 8pm last night) but hasn't made any progress. It keeps pecking at the same spot, but isn't turning around to zip. It's pipped at the wrong end, and this morning I removed some of the shell around the pip in hopes it would do the rest itself. It didn't, so a few hours later I removed some more.

Any tips/suggestions?

the one above ? did you make that zip or did it make it? oh nevermind read in full, you did, typically they can get out on their own in mals if they pip and are alive!
