EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I love hatching in the fall and having spring layers. I also find (anecdotal, but my experience) that summer chicks that don't lay through winter start with full-sized eggs in the spring, not pullet-sized eggs.

what is the molting schedule/egg production drop on fall chicks?

They generally will molt in the fall, with everyone else. Excluding regular pre-adult moltings. Egg production is the same, I suppose. I don't have any production breeds, and I don't light my coops, so I've never had eggs through winter. The fact that I'm still getting one every-other-day is a miracle.

The pullets I hatched in April won't lay til spring. Remind me and I'll show you their eggs, compared to the fall-hatched chicks.
