EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Quote: Sally's processing day support thread is really good. It IS hard at first - there'd be something wrong with you if it weren't. It would be good to know how to do it, I'd think.

I love growing purple beans!!!! Which variety are you growing? (I didn't get my fall beans in in time this year...)

I'm so sorry - that's pretty deep. I agree with Benny - possibly needs antibiotics, and needs to be warm. I took Dumbledore (attacked by 3 terriers while protecting the flock) to the vet - one somewhat deep bite on the tail nubbin (though not as deep as Rocky's). I had done the right stuff, but was so freaked out I went anyway. She helped ensure I got a more thorough exam (to ensure no missed punctures) and gave him Baytril (but only after I signed a waiver that he would never enter the food supply). I put a lot of time and effort getting him well over the next several weeks.

If you don't like him, I really would cull him.

Cull and make soup. Seriously - here's where you can learn how. He's in pain, has a slow road ahead otherwise. (The vet also gave me pain meds for Dumbledore for the first 4 days...)

Well, in other news, my nearly 8 year old hen is not looking so hot.

She don't look like giving up too soon, she still has that spark, but her body is wearing out... Don't think she'll make it through the winter. Her limp is worse and she was sleeping in the nesting boxes last night.

I haven't lost an adult bird since last Sept, so guess I'm overdue.
Anyway, 'nuff depressing stuff...
