No, we pasture them in the woods so we have to move them every few months when the eat all the green stuff.Move them to my house to eat?
Good morning everyone. I had to getting going early to go back to my friend's for chores before work due to a problem last night. My prayer for the day is that on five hours of sleep I keep it between the lines, and "that I'll be singing when the evening comes."
Have a great day!
Thank you Dax, I woke up and read this - you made my day!@Fire Ant Farm here's wishing you success with your chores today and may they be accomplished with few errors. That you may be very productive.
To everyone:
May you all find a little bit of joy in the chores and getting ready for the holiday, enjoy safety and travel, and a great time with your family. If you are lucky enough to have one.
I know, I know!!!! I remembered because I'm a Star Trek geek, and I had always wondered if your handle was related to Dax on DS9, and it was (since you named your horse after Dax)!!!!![]()
Wrong thread, but DYK my handle came from one of my horses Dax. Back when online websites were much newer I joined a gaited site. She was gaited so Dax I gait came because she and I gaited.
Good morning!!!!! Thanks for the coffee - Yum!!!

I haven't gone home for Thanksgiving since freshman year in college (a LOOOOOOOONG time ago) - I just decided to boycott travel at this crazy time. Sometimes I have it with friends, but most of the time I have Thanksgiving dinner for one - which I actually LOVE. I enjoy the cooking, but don't have to have things ready by a certain time or any of that stressful stuff. And I spend a lot of the time while cooking talking to my mother on the phone.
I do turkey (brined) with the bottom of the roasting pan filled with cut up carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, winter squash, parsnips, etc. The drippings all fall down on them as they cook. After the turkey is done I roast the veggies under the broiler. (There are always tons of leftovers of these, which I mix with turkey meat to make hash). I have migrated to more simple sides - I do greens of some sort (usually collards), and green beans (in or out of a green bean casserole). This year I have some salad turnips, so I'll probably make a really yummy turnip recipe I like from Vegetable Literacy (Deborah Madison cookbook). And I make an AMAZING cranberry sauce!!! If I'm organized and in the mood, and I have local fresh pecans, I'll make little 4" pecan pies - eat one and freeze the others.
What variety of apple tree do you have?Yes, hopefully with apples from our trees. They've been in the fridge for awhile if not we have apples to make them from.
I thaw mine in the fridge (I have room) - but Alton Brown suggests if not in fridge to put in a styrofoam cooler (cold packs in the bottom, then a tray/pen to catch any liquid, then the turkey) and putting a probe thermometer through the top to measure air temp. You want to keep it below 40F for safety, so set the alarm (if you have one) for air temp of 38F. Then you're set (and ready to brine!)how long does it take to thaw a 14lb turkey in a tub of water?
If you need it faster, Alton Brown says if you put your frozen turkey in a 5 gallon bucket with cold water in the tub (changing water every 3 hours), it should take about 2 lbs per hour (so 7 hours).
I managed to pick up a chest cold/cough thing that's a pain. Other than that peeps are good and goats are far. Going to FIL house Thursday so only like 20 minute drive which ain't to bad.I hope you get better soon!!!!!![]()
Hot lettuce is just that
Rip up head of lettuce in bowl
add sliced hard boiled eggs
bacon cooked and chopped up
and bacon dressing is made hot from the drippings (do this from my head but its basically as follows)
Ingredients
Directions
- 3 slices bacon, crisp and chopped (I use two packs we like our bacon!!!)
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- salad greens ( lettuce, endive, spinach or dandelion)
- chopped onion (optional)
- Cook bacon until crisp; remove and chop.
- Add to greens.
- Add all other ingredients to the beaten egg and pour into the hot bacon fat and cook until thickened.
- Serve over greens, and add a little bit of chopped onion to salad, if desired.

Yum!!! I'm going to try that!!!![]()
I'm not a big fan of sweet stuff - and NEVER anywhere but dessert (I hate stuff like that sweet potato casserole with marshmallows my family usually made every year).Mornin'.
I'm like your dad. I always shun the extra sweet stuff. Some of the pies are just over the top. I can't do whipped cream on my pumpkin pie either. Why ruin a good pumpkin pie.
I can do cheese cake too.
My son is proud of his cooking skills.
He said my daughter was bringing dessert. I asked if she was making it and he said he thought she was buying something from the grocery store. I called and told her not to bother, I was making the pie.
Puppies!!!!! Can't wait for PUPPIES!!!!!!!!Time to dig out a whelp box, I think the day is Saturday time to get ready and start taking temps!![]()
