EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Just joined BYC tonight and have a candling questions. I just candled an egg at day 14 and didn't see any movement. How can I tell if I lost the chick? Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place still trying to figure out what I'm doing

Honestly I don't recall i saw so much movement last time I looked my heart sank when I saw none. Should I check or just leave it alone. My daughter is 6 and just joined 4H this year as a cloverbud so we have candled it about 5 times mostly so she can see what is going on. I have kind of gotten attached to the little guy

Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted but I think we have a dud. I'll get a new incubator and collect some more eggs. Any small incubator recommendation would be greatly appreciated. I really want to hatch some of my girls eggs and now I'm determined to make it happen.
@jhooks80 I am sorry about your hatch.... I do have some info that could REALLY help you out with the next incubation, I also suggest the brinsea mini if you only wish to hatch a few at a time! We make all our bators out of coolers, really not hard at all and we started all this making the bators and incubating with our kiddo when she was six!! CoolerBATOR DIY click here

Yeah, there's a season on them. Darn .22 only fires when it wants to. I must've extracted close to a dozen cartridges before I got one to fire, and I missed. The ammo's old...real old. I hope that's the problem. I keep forgetting to buy a new box to be sure.
Yes, I'd try a new box, for certain.
I got them when Dad died 10 years ago; no telling how long he had them.
Doesn't a lot depend on how they were stored?
They've been in one of my gun cabinets the whole time; no sign of corrosion. I've taken the rifle to 2 different gunsmiths, thinking the firing pin spring was weak...nope

Guess what I found in my doe's pen this morning.

oh no! sorry Dan, I know nothing about rabbit babies poor thing, it lookslike a mouse

Good news. My neighbour's hen with the broken leg (I took the splint off a few weeks ago) is now walking fine with nearly no limp.

Quote: @daxigait I agree he will be fine, you have a wide enough roost bar he can cover his feet, you know I had read that it may be better in extreme colds to not offer roost bars! to make them stay on the thick shavings in the coop, my bars dont come out though. You can look into frostbite prevention for combs and wattles, never use the alum feeders or whatever they are in the winter, it really does the roos in having them dangling on that stuff.
