EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Chrissy *might* have nibbled a bit more food slop, I saw uneven patterns in the bottom... She's still very annoyed that I had to spray her wounds, but I just wish she'd start eating. It's been four days now.

She did, however, stand upright on one web and a wing for a moment to fix the way she was sitting!! Even bigger progress!! :celebrate

:weee Yay!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote: Nope, it's a little sheep farm with a herding business. 5 fields you can work in (including the duck arena) and a large barn to work a little inside. They give herding lessons, rent sheep, have their own clinics, rent out for others to hold clinics, hold their own trials and rent out for others to hold trials.

Sounds like quite the business

I will have to get a few more for another group. I will try to get a trio from one of the big breeder next year or so more chicks. I was hoping to have a good base, but I don't have enough diversity. I didn't with her, but this really undercut it. With her though I had two trios one good one and one OK one.

I hope nothing happens to your guy he sounds cool. If you get some chicks this year that don't get the NN gene I would be really interested. Sorry, while I like what several have said about hardiness I don't like the look. I had two two NN Ameraucana pullets for green egg layers in the group that got ms. They were beautiful pullets.
Did I miss something? Did something happen to your RIR?

There are several RIR breeders down your way.

I'd look for those that raise only RIR or just a couple other breeds.

Have you tried making a purée out of her food? When I had mono swallowing really hurt. Maybe a more liquid food you could scoop/put in her bill would help.

I am on parking lot duty at church for the service and then home to chores. Such an exciting Christmas Eve so I understand. I am going to a friend's for the day tomorrow though. The two of us may ride. I hope you have plans then.
Every year we go to a cool wine bar and restaurant called Sasha's on Shaw in the city. It is mostly couches and plush chairs around fireplaces in an old brick building like my house. It was warm enough last night to sit around the fire on the patio.
Last night it was our kids, their significant others and 4 more friends. We shared the world tour cheese plate, olive plate, charcuterie plate and I had the lamb chops.

This morning everyone is coming over for breakfast and presents. Every year we all go to the theater together Christmas afternoon. The movie "Fences" today.

Agree with the ventilation. On one coop the entire gable ends are 1/2 hardware cloth. The "boards" are old scaffold boards that are nailed with 1/2 spacing. The windows are always open. This is the most closed in coop I have the rest have only three sides or only a roof with side protection at the roost height.
Like you said wild chickens and around here the wild turkeys survive plenty well without coops.
Yeah, I forgot to mention gable vents if one gets snow that would cover the ridge vents.

well, i better get going to bed if i want to go to the early Christmas service at church tomorrow! enjoy 2016's Christmas eve!
I've heard that Santa doesn't visit if you're not sleeping.

Yay!!!!

I didn't know she was drinking Sav-A-Chick - yeah that stuff has sugar in it.

You know, she's probably in pain, and possibly that's why she hasn't eaten. I don't know much about non-prescription pain control for birds (Dumbledore was put on an oral prescription pain medicine for about 4 days, and I believe it helped him.) But if that's the case, that's hopeful, as it will abate.

I sometimes use baby aspirin. Crushed up mixed with water.
