I have personal experience with a rhodebar rooster who lost his entire foot to frost bite. He was a virile breeder and a great protector albeit a little slower than the others. Had him for 2 years until I gave him to a friend and was told he "disappeared"Well, I guess it's good I brought Maple in.... Frostbite on her feet is now evident, they're really swollen. :/
I should have brought her in with Georgia, but I thought she'd be fine.... I was wrong. I hope she keeps her toes; two permanent house birds is too much!

Just got home - look what I found!!!!!It hadn't even pipped when I left the house at 11am, looks wet and tired, but managed to hurl itself across the hatcher, so there's at least some strength there. This was one of the Marans eggs - in fact, it was the one that had lost 22.15% weight by day 18!!!!!
(I think s/he was like "there's no more room in here, let me out!!!") S/he's wet and huffing/puffing, looks like s/he just hatched, so I'll withhold assessment of strength and vigor for now. Meanwhile, one of the NN x GNH eggs that had a big "karate chop" pip this morning is enlarging the pip, will zip soon, and another of the marans eggs has pipped as well. So only 6 total eggs out of 16 not pipped yet.
I need to go to chores (water changing mostly), then I'll come back in and alternate read-back and staring at the hatcher... - Ant Farm
