EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

That rules out all Missourians...:lau
I am not from here originally so I will not get too offended. ChickenCanoe might get offended though if he comes back.
@ChickenCanoeWhere are you? You are missed.
Congratulations on the seven you got. How many toad tadpoles?

@Fire Ant Farm @dan26552Great news on your hatches!!! :Woot

Hi Ant Farm! I am Meltel and I too have a problem... I too came home with 2 "big curly ducks" a couple months ago.... and all of a sudden I won this "contest" for a new bator and my 2 big curly ducks started laying these eggs in a double bubble wrapped box and the eggs had names and pens imprinted on them around the same time......

:gig

.

I keep mine in the basement and it is just fine.
The heater will keep the bator at temp so the outside temp is less important esp. If it does not fluctuate too much.

Also I run hatches at about 30% until they pip, and then raise it. That usually requires placing a diaper soaked in water on the lower shelf as a large surface area for evaporation.
Running hatches a bit dry has eliminated "drowned in shell" chicks on hatch day.

Critters update: Zippy seems to be eating more, thank goodness. I don't want to force feed him too.... Chrissy has lost some more weight, not sure how much as she won't sit still to be weighed. It's just what I can tell from how her keel feels. But, she ate a small bowl full of food overnight, and was going to town on bowl #3 when I left her this morning. :yesss: And, she's standing nicely on her one web. Maple has several blisters on each foot, but she is still perky and drags herself to food and water. Torvi hasn't pasted up again.
:D That is progress anyway :hugs
10 Successful babies so far! 2 Over achievers started pipping on Lockdown on Sunday night, and were out within a couple of hours! Each day at least 1 to 2 chicks hatched! I took chicks out as they hatched and fluffed up. I then sprayed water in on the eggs for Humidity steadyness. I am still hopeful for the remaining 4 eggs, however I believe 1 of them is not viable due to the lack of movement and that I can't see any veins anymore. I thought it was the draw down. There are 2 others that were still moving around in there, but no internal pips yet as of last night. I will check again tonight, after work. Turkey eggs will stay in for a few more days, they had good movement last night, I have been turning them a couple time a day, since lockdown while taking out the chicks and spraying.
:clap Congratulations on your chickies. @meltel Thanks for sharing the beautiful sky. I hope your health is improving even if other stuff is going wrong.

Sounds like it may help. I'm actually going to start on a cooler/hatcher this weekend also I think. That should eliminate alot of humidity issues and the cabinet should be fine. I can't say thank you enough for the info the members on this site are so eager to share!
