EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

IKR?! There are some SERIOUSLY swanky digs on there!!! When I first saw it, it was almost like, "I want ducks so I have have a duck house like that!" :lau

Really - that's so interesting. I didn't use the cooling option in these hatches. (I should have thought to try it on some of the Puppy eggs.) I may try it next time...

I'm now wishing I had the money to build a little separate duck coop, maybe someday.... With a little covered run so I could get calls...

I thought by having the cooling part on for an hour a day they would be late. Very clean hatch so far.

I suppose it makes sense in that a company like Brinsea wouldn't develop and then recommend the use of the feature if it wasn't beneficial, given how their reputation is all about their incubators... I can't recall at the moment, but I think it's more important to have for waterfowl eggs, but it's neat to hear how it has worked well for your NNs!

How hot did you run your incubation, temp - wise? I run around 100.5F (per Sally's advice). Tend to be early or on time...

Goodnight Abi

Goodnight all! I gotta go crash. Not looking forward to the morning - I was told at a doctor appt that I'm drinking too much coffee and that's probably why my headaches had gotten worse. I can still drink it, just not as much. This is going to hurt...

That's awesome! My incubators don't have the cooling option so I've never tried it but I was very nervous about my broody's eggs out there. Granted, she doesn't stay off her eggs for an hour but with temps in the 20s and 30s, I worried for the 20-30 minutes that she was off every morning that they'd get too cold. All 4 of her eggs are looking great and are due in less than a week now :)

Question regarding temperatures:

I have four thermometers in my still air incubator. They are a digital one with a hydrometer, a metal one that came with the incubator (from about 2001), an outdoor weather station therm with hydrometer, and a flat one you put of the eggs. All reading 100-101.3 Or so. I've even tested a laser therm and it read around 99.

I put the flat therm on top of the eggs, out of curiosity, and it read 106! I need suggestions! Is that normal?

This is my third attempt at hatching recently and have not been successful with the other two. The last batch had formed chicks with unabsorbed yolks.the first batch was a humidity error.

I hatched when I was younger (2000-2001) and never had as many issues. Actually I never had any issues and good hatch rates.

I did buy a forced air incubator and letting it get up to temp,

I was too sick to drink coffee yesterday, and I was told that if I didn't drink coffee today, I was being rushed to the hospital!

101.2 with humidity at 45 first week then 40 as they weren't losing enough. At lockdown still not enough but they seem to be hatching and without assistance. From external pip to hatch less than two hours at least from what I saw. No yolk mess no sticky shells and fluffy in short order. I'm really liking this so far. My non NN haven't pipped yet.
