could you order some bute from mexico?

My vet's trying to get some for us - I know horses can take an asprin powder, and asprin is an OTC med - I can mix it into her water/grain if I know the dosage for a 1000lbs animal. I'm trying to figure it out ^.^

Hmmm - I have a conundrum with my horse. She needs bute - but my vet isn't licensed until march, to write prescriptions in Tx.... is there any over-the counter variations that can be given for pain relief to a horse until she can fill an RX at a pet pharmacy for us?

She eats bute pills fine - I got my hands on a couple doses, to try. She nearly starved herself to death/dehydrated herself in the back pasture - because when it got cold for a few days, she refused to move... got herself all stiff and lost tons of weight in like 3 weeks from lack of eating. I got the vet out here to help us get her hydrated, and got some pain meds on board.

Sadly, our vet isn't licensed until march - since she JUST moved here, and it takes time to swap licensing around to be able to write prescriptions in new states.

Most vets want to "see" the animal - but she's so arthritic, even if I could borrow a trailer, the stress of moving her woudl do more harm than good.

One can get injectable bute without a prescription, but it has to be given IV, it cannot be given IM, and I think it's not supposed to be given for more than a few days when given by injection. I have searched high and low for a bute source, but I cannot find the pills or paste without a presriction.

She's going to need long-term chronic pain treatment. She's very arthritic. She will literally starve herself to death if she's in pain. So the vet said it's time to put her on daily pain meds. So, the short term won't help since I need a long-term solution for a few weeks.

a 1,000 pound horse gets 2 to 4 of the 240grain boluses. Each bolus contains 15,551.76 mg. So 2 bolus is 31,103.52mg and 4 bolus is 62,207.4mg

Your vet should be able to tell you what the aspirin dose for horses is, but I'll look it up. Years ago I had to give aspirin to a horse with moon blindness, and I think he got something like 30 pills per day?

Okay, so help a dyslexic person with that math. If I buy OTC asprin tablets, how many do I need to crunch up and put in her sweet-feed tea that the vet's having me give her. lol

When they closed could you still see a scar or mark? I also noticed not all of them cut a hole. it was more of a circle flap. Oh and Good Morning to all...so I don't get called unfriendly....

It needs to be an actual hole, or it won't work. The hole, if done correctly, persists into adulthood. The olive egger chicks I got from Luanne at Eight Acres had punched toes - the pullet I kept still has that hole.

Way you are doing that to them? This wound can be an entry platform to some nasty pathogens to your chicks body.

I am doing this to keep all the breeds separate, and to keep the lines straight. Otherwise I would need to set up 9 different brooders, run 9 different heat sources, and 9 different grow out pens. I already have 15 breeding pens. I sell some of these I need to be able to tell Toads from White Legbars at 2-5 days of age. I needto tell Cuckoo Maranm, Dominique and barred rock chicks apart with 100% certainty. So I have to take the risk. It was a hard thing to decide to do, I only did it after talking to a lot of breeders and seeing their results. None of them mentioned infection by anything as a problem. I have tried fingernail polish, bands and none of them work well.

I've done this for years to mark chicks that are split to another color(isabel, lavender, chocolate, etc). Never have had an issue and it heals quickly.
