EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I get upset when people joke about giving their children away.

Is it nap time yet?
I don't get upset about it - but i'm usually the first to offer to take them. ^.^

I don't like other peoples kids, but I like "my" kids - including if I were to ever adopt.... which I hope to do in the future someday. After my oldest moves out.

Good morning. Gonna kind of take it easy today. Been out and got all the feeding done this morning. Think I'll watch the UConn women and then grill out for the football game. Chores only today but I may load up a cabinet. I don't think I told anybody but last fall I put a Barred Rock Roo over Ameracauna hens. They are now 11 weeks old and some cool looking birds. I'll try to get a pic up today.

Dog crates. I seriously put mine in a big warm room, and just moved them to a dog crate until they were about 4-5 weeks old.

Oh, I use dog crates too. I have 2 large ones connected together in the screen porch to make a large brooder. It has older babies in it right now that will get moved outside in a few days. There's another dog crate on top of that with a couple little show girls and silkies which will rotate down to the big brooder once the older ones go outside. I have 1 more crate with a breeding pair of silkies in it. I'm now out of crates lol

Actually, when it gets hot enough over your body temperature, you transition from shorts back to (light weight) shirt and pants and a hat. There's a reason folks are completely covered up in the desert.

Here y'go, Kristin and Kaj....

Ummmmmm..... No thank you.

Good morning everyone! I'm already catching poults and putting them back in the brooder. Still less than a week old and already escape artists!

I have had so many of those experiences that I do 360 containment with HW cloth now. The oldest group still rushes to perch on the door the second I open it, though...

With my two new kids sleeping on my lap last night, or nuzzling I wanted to just stay there.

Awwwwwwww.....

I can't wait until I can have goats. (I probably need to stop hatching so many chickens if I ever hope to...)

That sounds cool - post pics when you get the chance!

Transferred the 1 week olds to the larger brooder this morning. They were being rambunctious enough that it was REALLY time. After a brief period of, "OMG, we're all gonna die" they really started to enjoy it - and the older chicks are having fun looking at them next door. So now the new babies are in a better brooder with more room. I'll have them join the older ones next weekend - then NO MORE CHICKS IN THE HOUSE! (YAY!!!!!!!)

It's rainy and foggy this morning - sorta gives you that "do nothing" mood. But I need to do some gardening and other yard work - maybe some additional paddock planning...

(After some brunch - I just pulled the last of the frozen quiche out of the freezer - time to make more!)
