Yes, I know you *can* do it, but I think it's why so many pure-bred dogs have so many genetic flaws that flare up randomly now, from inbreeding.It's called line breeding, It is done to cement certain traits into a line. It's still incest, but I do it all the time with show birds.
The thing to remember is along with the good , you can cement in the bad things too.
Don't incubate eggs from birds that are in with their siblings... But I think it only becomes a problem after several generations.How would you stop that? LOL
I may try to set 1000.![]()
Perfect! That should be good for month #1.
Ahhh.... Yeah, none of my birds are related, EXCEPT Star, and white fluff and biter.Don't incubate eggs from birds that are in with their siblings... But I think it only becomes a problem after several generations.

I just wasn't sure, what the likelyhood was, of causing severe issues in chickens.
Sigh... I suppose. But even I managed to set over 100 eggs last year so 100 is the bare minimum.I meant for the whole year.
@Sally Sunshine
Twins are doing awesome. They have gotten to the point they notice each other and somewhat interact with one another. Last night they played a game of still each others bop (pacifier) for around 15 minutes before they both decided it wasn't funny anymore. Pretty much sleeping through the night (7-8 hrs). Speaking of teeth, they both have the bottom two trying to come in, we will see how teething goes.
Hope and prayers that your life calms down prior to you going in for surgery.

Okay. lol that's all I was curious, chickens don't live very long, all things considered, so I haven't really seen people post much or talk much about the genetics of having a closed flock, and when/where/how they get fresh stock in, or if it's never their eggs, etc etc.Ok, I misunderstood, Sorry, I would say slim chances of having something bad pop up.
