Ok so I've put myself into abit of a pickle! I have two incubators one for incubating and one as a hatcher. I currently have quail, silkies and runners in the incubator. My problem is the quail are hatching on the 17th and the silkies are going into lockdown on the 19th. So hopefully the quail either all hatch on the 17th so I can clean the hatcher for the silkies or I'm not sure what to do! Can I put the silkies in if the quail are hatching or? Help

I can never tell-thats the problem. Nothing really "causes" it except for the cold. But I'm inside now and its mottled red and achy. Starting back to OT on Monday and bought a really nice heating pad for when it acts up. How's Messy and Maple??

LOL, no. I don't think I have had a beer in about 2 years. Usually would have a microbrew beer, or Sam Adams.

I am calling in on EVERYONE for help with something PLEASE!!!!!

I really would like to find a Tolbunt Cockerel or Roo for my hens! I am having no luck local so I would have to get one shipped, at this point either I find one or ship out the hens!! This Roo is infertile, its either that or put them in with the icelandics and I hesitate because both lay white eggs about same size!
i'll try!

how cool is this hummingbird nest!!!
so cool!!!!

So I decided they are not brooding, but are strongly considering it. The one that was missing feathers in the front I fear has something else going on. I let them run out of feed this morning and her crop was bulging .
uh oh, that stinks

In 1995 a land locked 80 of swamp with about an acre of high ground sold for 12,000. It borders my parents land. Fresh out of high school I was going to buy it and my dad talked me out of it. It resold for 40,000 and sold again for 60,000. The last buyer purchase another 40 that wasn't for sale. Guess he paid way to much for it. Because it was part of an original family farm and I never thought the seller would part with it. There is a small cabin on the acre of high ground now and the 120 with cabin is valued at 150,000. Should of could of would of. I stopped in there a few years ago during gun deer season to introduce myself and be neighbourly. There were 5 guys out front. As I put the truck in park they all walked off before I got the door open. I boldly went to the cabin door and knocked no one answered. My dad has met the own since while bar tending and tells me the guys is a jerk.
that sucks, sorry

lock down the silkies a couple days early, turning is most important in the first 2 weeks

What type of hatcher do you have?

I have a mystery here.
I was sitting at the dining room table on my laptop (reading BYC and actually doing some work) I am having a light lunch of cheese and cold cuts on Triscuits..

The cold cuts are a bologna with jalapenos in it. I had some sliced cheese on the plate with the bologna...

I decided to get a glass of water, I got up went into the kitchen and got the water. I came back and all the cheese is missing from the plate..

The dog is lying on the floor looking all innocent, so I know she did not take it.... I just can't figure out where the cheese went, and why the bologna is still here...

Maybe the house is haunted...

Looks about the same here. Kids had off school and Hubby got up and took care of all the animals so I could sleep in :) I'm so tired of the snow and the kids are driving me nuts lol but at least it is pretty out!

On one of the PA farming pages they were talking about these and I think someone had some eggs. I'll go find it for you.

Hahaha!! I'm sure you could find a shirt that says Turkeys!!!

Speaking of Turkeys...............................

Turkey eggs incoming soon.... he mated with a girl today... I went to give them a hug and that's when he decided it was time to pounce on the girls. I had to scramble to get out of his way.

It's a 48 egg incubator I'll just take out the turner and pop them in. If it comes to it I'll just have to put the silkies in early but will that do any harm?

Do you have any other eggs in the incubator? Turn the second one into a hatcher for a short while?

Stop the turner on the 19th if you have too for a day. then put the eggs in the hatcher on the 20th.

It is not a huge thing, INHO either way. The problem I see is you cannot have the quail in the hatcher for 4 days after they hatch. So at some point you have to decide to open the hatcher and remove babies them lock it down again...Just do it fast and mist in the hatcher as you close it again
