Feeling better; I might live.

Hi all!

Just curious - why is crested a bad thing?  Is it just ducks?  I have never seen it referred to a negative in chickens....

I know vaulted skulls are really cute, but it makes them more vulnerable - their skull is less protected.

Thanks!
crested is bad in ducks because it can cause early death in incubation if 2 crested birds are bred together plus a higher instance of nervous system disorders stem from the crest in ducks.

You named why it is an issue in some chicken breeds. They are prone to head injury due to the exposure of the brain.

In some breeds, such as Swedish flowers, a crested bird is ok as long as it is a small crest. If it protrudes over their eyes it is a hindrance to their free ranging ability. It limits their aerial predator vision.
