EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I thought I'd share this.
Thank you! I think you did! So far, it looks good, just sleepy. To be expected after such an ordeal! Another chick has a pip, I will be watching very closely... :hugs
did you read that link that Sally posted I think it's on page 1699 I copied it but it didn't copy the link part period She said something about hips and lips being different with turkeys
I did, yep! Thanks. I had remembered reading before about not intervening too soon, but I didn't remember that the zip is only supposed to last up to 90 minutes for chickens. The chicks surprised me this morning by being a day early, and I hadn't gotten the humidity up enough. I'm sure this is why the turkey chick had a problem. I have tried to bring it up higher now. Hopefully I get one more chicky to hatch, since it has a pip.

So sorry to hear that. Distressing for both of you.

How often is she having the fits?

My magpie duckling seems to be having trouble hatching. Pipped fine. But instead of unzippping in a circle around the AC she made a big hole in the middle. She is trying to push out butdoesn't seem to be able to. membrane seems to trap her a little.

How long since pip? How long since it started opening it like that?

Past asking those questions to provide info for others, I am no help. I have never hatched ducks.
She pipped yesterday night. She has been opening it like that for hmm... About an hour? The membrane is drying/dried It's all white and papery looking. She seems tired and I think she's stuck.

White is perfectly normal for the outer membrane. Can you see the bill? Is she opening and closing it?
