Ducks definitely do better free-ranging. If I couldn't free range for the part of the year that the yard ain't buried in white shtuff, I doubt I'd keep ducks.

I wish I could free range. If it weren't for the truckyard and the car dealer nearby I'd let them at it. As is I need to strengthen the fence around the property before even considering it.

They definitely lay better than chickens. Eat less too.

OK, that is it. LAY BETTER?!?! Sure they will lay better if you have more chickens than ducks! My chickens NEVER laid in the winter. My ducks only took off 1 week in January.
