I love storms.

I'm really upset, I had 30-35 ish turkeys/silkies/chicks in a grow out pen, and even though they had a elevated house OFF the ground, only 2 chickens, and 5 turkeys were smart enough to use it. I had 8-10 die right off the bat, I was able to revive a couple chicks/turkeys, and the rest are under a heat lamp, trying to see if any of them are strong enough to live.

Why would they just drown themselves? Why wouldn't they go into the house we build for them, that was element proof?

Having more turkeys than Jenny-O does I can tell the first 2 months of their lives is spent thinking of new and inventive ways to die ...


At that age, and it pains me to say this, they make dux look smart. Sorry they died.

I always figured if we made it past the 2-3 week mark.... we did good. Most of them offed themselves in the first week. LOL
Ugh.

But it wasn't JUST the turkeys, it was all my silkie chicks, too! and one of my leghorn/EE crosses. Those guys are usually smarter than this

I managed to save 2-3 chicks, including 1 leghorn cross... and then focused on the turkeys. I have a few more in my incubator, but if I had lost all my turkeys, and had to start over after I off'd my tom, I would have been pretty upset. I don't know that their eggs would even be fertile anymore.

I am guessing the turkey poults talked the rest into a suicide pact...They do that stuff.

I like to sell turkey poults as young as possible, knowing the chances of them reaching adulthood is 1 in 546.326
