EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

She had three live piglets. There were 4 or 5 that didn't make it (some looked like they'd died a while ago :sick) there's one red spotted one with a belt, one white spotted one and a red one.

I'd kinda like to do something decorative with sea gravel and flat rocks and such but I don't want it to be hard on their feet. Is that enough room for six or seven calls? I'll let them out still to play when I'm outside.
Rocks are a great idea. Ducks actually need uneven ground for good foot health. I have not found a perfect solution for my ducks, but anything you can hose off is a plus.

So to start it off with the deep litter method what would I use? I'm in the big city ya know with mowed lawns lol. How about store bought mulch to start off with then just add leaves and shavings as it goes? I guess I need to read up on deep litter method.

I figured would need to add some flat rock or pavers in there for sure so they got something to scrape their toenails on. But guess I can just add some here and there for landscaping in the run. Maybe some potted plants or something they can nibble at

Why so little time in the boat?
Because the boat & motor are old, and seem to need constant repair. Son's trying to do it all himself, but his job is such that on days he works he gets up too late to get anything done before going back to work. All of which means that his days off are spent fixing whatever's wrong. We finally got everything working at once, then couldn't launch 'cause the river was too low to float the boat off the trailer. Went out on a lake the next day & the pedal for the bow mount trolling motor wouldn't work, so we packed it in.

No clue on the mulch. I dump my pine shavings in the woods, wait a year or until it looks right, then rake it into the run. :hu

For you... Might be easier to go with the gravel and just hose it off, if you don't have easy access to branches and leaves and all sorts of whatever ends up in there.

That is a real bummer. Sorry you didn't have too good a time.

Lol. I'll study deep litter method and figure out what we have access to. Might do a combination of the two.
