Ok so the hammer was my dads, but I liked to think it was mine. Boy did he get mad when I didn't put things away right.

I had a brand new skate, but no key.

I have several hand drills still. Also a hand grinder. Must have been a two person job sharpening things with that as one hand would have to be turning the wheel.

Hey...I had an old hand drill. We could've built something if we put our tools together! Get Banty's string and we'd be set.

Couldn't skate without one.

It would tighten the skate to your shoe. Holding it in place. I used to make scooters out of the skates with a 2/4 and orange crate box. That took the hammer of my dads

I shoulda known that was coming
Skates then were adjustable. They clamped onto your shoe soles in the front, & the base was adjustable for different shoe lengths. The skate key adjusted the spread of the clamps. Seems to me there was also a strap in there somewhere to hold the whole thing in place.
