EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

We lost one of our favorite EE chickens. My daughter was upset. She went out to the coop and the poor chicken was dead as a doornail on the ground.

I mean, with the heat index we've had so far, I'm surprised we haven't had more deaths. It's just been so hot with high humidity and the poor birds don't do that great.

I need to take 4 of these boy goats to auction, sometime in the next couple weeks, too. My husband keeps telling me it will cost almost as much in gas to drive there, as we'd get for them, and all I can say is "so? at least they'll be gone?" haha
I feel ya. I've lost around a dozen broilers this week, I can't find anything wrong, they just drop dead. Nothing wrong with the laying chicks and the coop is split in half between large broilers and smaller and the small broiler have shown no problems either, it's just the one pen of larger broilers. :barnie I've tried so many thing to get them to stop dropping dead.

Ah, lol

Just the usual.... Keeping the Rugrats from tearing down the house.

My youngest is 15 months now, and she basically took off after her older sister today. She's decided she refuses to stay in the house when A goes outside to do the morning chores. She has to go help her let out all the birds and check for eggs.

We had a mishap last night because our two toddlers were fighting over who got to bring in a turkey egg. ^.^

I've heard the larger birds are prone to heart attacks and any kind of stress sets them off. that their bodies just cannot maintain their frames/size??

Maybe butcher them earlier? Or.... i don't know. :(

Ahhh, my numbers are creeping up.

Yeah. Well they're only about 3 1/2 to 4lbs so not even really a decent carcass yet.

Good luck!

Oh geez, how odd then.

If the larger birds are dying off, maybe there's a genetic abnormality that got bred into them? They get butchered so early, it may not show up right away until it starts effecting them a lot earlier?

I don't know how defects work in birds. but it's definitely odd that they are just keeling over and dying so early on you.

Good morning everyone!
Just lost a ton of quotes because my tablet hates me  so I'll try to remember what they were though I'm not great at that.

@mlm Mike I'm getting poults from Porter's experimental colors pens. They could be literally anything.

@kwhites I hope you feel better soon. That really stinks :(

I had more but I have no clue what they were :/
