EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

She's been setting on eggs I've given her for a day. There's some eggs under her that are four days older. When and if I catch her off the nest I'll pull them. She's by herself so no more eggs will be added by other hens. The last broody had hens laying on top of her. Staggered hatch that was. I took the chicks as they hatched and she stayed with the rest till done.
OK.
I have a broody sitting on 4 eggs. She broke one a few days ago. They're due in 10 days. I put a few more dated eggs under her yesterday. I'll catch her off the nest in a week and take the added eggs away to put in the incubator.

78 is boiling, 72 is hot. 65 is warm, 45-55 is nice. 13 is good winter weather, and -40 is cold.
13F doesn't allow for liquid poultry water.

You started talking Fahrenheittits?!
Yeah, she's multilingual like that.

I'd suggest you breed those two lines together and get yourself a normal bird.
MO has a tough chicken climate for breed selection. It can range from -20 to 110F (-28 to 44 C) within 5 months - and humid.
Since most chickens handle cold better that extreme heat, I've opted for Mediterranean breeds.
I'm sure there are others but of the 30+ breeds I've raised, my vote for the breed that's best for both heat and cold hardiness - the prize goes to the Norwegian Jaerhon. They love the cold but are small tight feathered birds that can take the most extreme heat.
Lots of big white eggs for the size of the bird. They're also very early maturing birds.
I'd raise them again if I had more room.
