EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

One of the broodies didn't even have eggs. I did give her eggs from a hen that really lays well.

I have an appletini setting on no eggs. She thinks she has eggs, but there is nothing under her. I am afraid she is headed for a week of misery if she does not get over the broodiness soon.

I assume she goes broody so she does not have to look at the dux.

Any self respecting chicken would do anything to avoid Dux poo.
She goes broody in a low nest box, right about at Dux eye level. They sleep right there, so she spends the entire night and part of the day staring at Dux.

My SH pullet was acting broody, but I think I kicked her out of her little spot in time. Bella will probably be broody again real soon, it's been a whole week since I broke her last.

I have a terrible feeling I will be having more hens bringing out chicks in the net few weeks. I am missing some hens, I assumed a predator got them, but the appletini, that made it impossible to use my weight machine, proves they might just have stolen nests.
With your luck, I bet all 96 birds that went missing a bit ago have nests out in the woods.

Nope, those were all non laying teens and most were showbirds...

My wife and I were just talking about how weird it is a predator can break into my coop and run take 96 birds and not leave one body or feather and manage to get all my legbar pullets and PC pullets.....

One smart predator!
