EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Show and Tell Time... :wee

Baby Monitor went off @ 4-ish this morning..
Berk Sow started delivering her piglets. She had 4 before we could assist. 11 total with one fatality. I assume crushed or stepped on. 10 pure breed Berkshires.
The next 4-5 days will be critical as far as their well being is concerned. Too dark to photograph.. this was taken around 11 am today.

On a darker sadder note, my Red Blue Splash Whyandotte Rooster somehow got in with the Turkeys and my Tom Turk killed him.
Burried them together.. bummer town daddio..

I posted some more photographs here.. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...thread-byc-site.1189765/page-19#post-19031330

I have several Roos. He was one of the nicest ones. He was picked on a lot. Even hens would chase him. Nice guys finish last I suppose. He wasn't a good flyer. I don't know how he got in there unless he was chased up over the fence. Tom Turkey is over 40#. No contest. His is King Tut. I have only 1 Red Blue Splash Rooster left now. I really can't quess how many Roos are on our property though. 15-18? We breed and re home, roos don't sell. Especially crosses. They fill the Farm with Hickory BBQ smell more than they sell.

:)

It doesn't appear that you are. :lau

Dang, I need a Debbi! Wait, I do have one...but she has her own family. :hit
I smile too much.:D (<<<that's me) Makes it hard to get away.
I mark my eggs so I can pull all the eggs laid with them. But most of my broodies are Silkie...who knows what they're thinking.

From my husband, I've learned not to try to save $1.25 if it'd going to cost $1.75 to drive there. Just pay the larger price and still save time and money. He's learned to smell the roses, comparison shop, and look for deals to keep us in the black. I keep us in the black.;)

You crack me up, Mike!!:lau You really do.:hugs

Your husband sounds smart!

BTW I have never heard baby rabbits called "kittens" just "kits"... I guess that makes sense though..

See even a young whippersnapper like you can teach an older all knowing wise elder like me something once in a blue moon.......:old:old
