EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Here in CA - we are charged I think 5c per 6 pack (I stopped paying attention, and am not positive of the fee) when we buy beverages. So, we bring anything we paid a deposit on back to the recycle folks. For trash pickup, we have 3 separate bins - recycle, yard waste and trash. 3 separate trucks come by each week.
Nice!
Our system needs some work:
Trash: Once a week
* Recycle bin (paper, plastics, glass, metals): every other week
yard waste -?? no pick up, no burning allowed, & composting rare. So, people who actually mow their own lawns are supposed to buy special neon orange stickers to put on their yard waste bags. I've seen the sanitation workers simply toss them in the garbage trucks.

*Other: I would think these items should be recycled but our current system allows them to be in trash.
Computer recycling: drive to Best Buy or Good Will or a town recycle event
Plastic shopping bags (like Walmart & grocery bags): Must return to the store. Seriously!? How hard would it be to smoosh them together & collect them with the recycling? Most people don't bother, so they go into the trash.
Batteries: Once a month the fire house has a toxic chemical collection. Old paints, chemicals, & I guess batteries. Long lines, so most people just toss them into the trash.
Light bulbs: Those compact fluorescent bulbs are a joke. They may use less electricity, but they certainly don't last & they contain mercury. Yep.... trash.

I have a milk jug containing about 10 yrs worth of batteries as well as a box of burned out cf bulbs. I hope I find a place to drop them off when their containers get filled. Probably the fire station, but I'd prefer a place with shorter lines.

We just try to minimize creating waste in the first place, which is sometimes hard, but not always. Luckily they have commingled recycle pickup here and a household hazardous waste facility just outside town for batteries and paint.

Anyway, half my chicks have hatched and the other half (except one) have all pipped. Tomorrow is day 21, so hopefully I'll have lots of fluffy butts in the morning! Double hoping because I need to actually get chores done instead of glueing myself to uglybator and killing my back! :pop Hatching is so addictive!!!

Guh. Need to go out and refill the water in the run but it's raining and husband doesn't like me going down there without him when it's wet. Hope everyone else has decent weather today!

You could not be more wrong about our weather..It is nasty..

Be safe on the watering trip!

What??? I have no Araucana and have no desire to have any..I have EE!!!
You look like an Araucana in that 'photograph' of you that your avatar currently is.

Don't worry, I don't think Araucanas are very pretty either. Give me an Ameraucana any day. Main reason I like them is their body shape... they're quite pleasing to the eye and look well balanced.

If husband gets home before sundown today then I'll get him to take a bucket out for the birds. Now that I'm so close to the due date he's getting paranoid and won't let me go places without someone with me to keep me from hurting myself.
