I feed both same times. Also comfrey and duck weed raised here. Always looking for additional sources of protein to grow. Started some sort of tree/bush here last year the leaves are supposed to be high in protein. Not sure how they like it yet as it's only 6' tall with very few leavesWe do conventional grain pels in the am & barley grain eves. Somewhere in the forty% area. We trade eggs to a bakery lady who brings us tons of non factory made breads and such.. And veggie buddies we barter with.
We spend more time on feed related activities than improving the farm. Inventory is too big for 2 old farts..
Always fight the bottom line.. feed..

Mine used to get squirrels they are too old for that now.I plan to start feeding animal protein to the birds here, in the form of Grey Squirrels. They must die, I had none and all of a sudden I am over run with them...I think they cats I got are defective.
I don't know what is available in your neck of the woods but.. we are getting 50# bags of "whole soy beans" for about 16.99 ish(give or take). We have 4 crock pots and slow cook the beans for our personal consumption pigs but the young chickens get more than their share. The batch I cooked yesterday is fed today. Today's batch tomorrow. They expand while they cook and the bags last a good bit.I feed both same times. Also comfrey and duck weed raised here. Always looking for additional sources of protein to grow. If you only have 1 egg in the incubator and it doesn't hatch.. it will be a 0% hatch rateDid you know I have had a 100% development rate on shipped eggs?
Unfortunately not a 100% hatch rate... sigh.
