Little Zelda is doing great (aside from being lonely!). She's up running around and jumping and crazy! Hard to believe, I really didn't even know if she was alive when I found the egg covered in ants. It took a while for her to actually even move after I got her out of the shell.

Not pretty, but they worked!

Good morning!

More snow, I forgot to open up one of the coops yesterday, I doubt if the chickens cared, they haven't been going outside since the bigger snow.

Mine come out, snow or not, but the lead one will stand at the top of the ramp & eyeball the situation first if there's snow on the ground.

Danged screwy birds! All 6 layers have been freeloading since it's gotten consistently cold (short daylight hasn't historically affected egg production all that much); been getting 1 egg a day, if that. Been going a week at a time recently with none at all. Now, this morning, I get 3 eggs all at once. I guess tomorrow we'll be back to 0.

That was the membrane, it had dried out completely and was shrink wrapped. The hen had eaten most of the shell, and the ants were eating the chicks yolk sac! Ugh. It was not a pretty sight. I'm just glad it has survived and doesn't seem to be adversely affected!

You most likely will. Your road maintenance crews probably don't have the equipment to handle it. Aren't you in Alabama? Mississippi? I wouldn't be surprised if some of the natives have never seen snow.
