EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I don’t liiiike you! :tongue
I am so annoyed that when I was ready to process, someone wanted the roosters, but never came. Now I just can’t do it! I had closed the fence while I was working yesterday afternoon to keep the chickens out. One squeezed in, and I could have caught him. But I just couldn’t stomach killing him. :he

Their waste is safe for the garden immediately, they need less pampering in the heat because they swim, and less work in the winter because they stay warmer. I lost a chick when it separated from its mother, and drowned in a bucket the rain had filled. Momma duck puts her oil on her babies, so not only would a duckling have been able to swim for a while (assuming it was even a breed that could fly into the bucket), it could float.

And ducks are delicious!

Exactly what I did. In fact the last of the seedlings were dumped last weekend.

I tend to watch what the Amish and Mennonite neighbors are doing with their gardens and follow. They seem to know what they are doing. Now if I could find a dozen kids to do the weeding.

This is a bad bad case of chicken math. Good points on the ducks the chickens don’t need water to self destruct. Huge compost pile here so at the end of it is usually safe for any plant.

Howdy y'all!

Thanks for the birthday wishes on my profile. The boy's got four teeth coming in all at around the same time so he's been really fussy and not letting me do much.

Chickens are doing great, the three of them are happy and thriving. House is getting the facade done today and things should be back to normal by next week (but we know that won't happen lol). I'm trying to get things cleaned up in our apartment while the boy sleeps so I'll be around later!

:somad AJ was attacking Duckling again. Sad since she was standing there, giving him cracked corn. I wasn’t near, so I told her to kick him. Three times, and he didn’t stop. I went down to them, and caught him. She carried him for a minute, but then handed him back so she could play. I carried him about another five minutes before putting him down. Here’s hoping he’s done with his attitude... which might only be happening when she’s giving the treats. :idunno
