EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Evidently someone in China thought that too, because I bought popsicle molds with that design on them. I didn't realise what it actually was until I got home. :hmm

Hi again. This thread is all but dead, huh?
I've been pretty preoccupied but I figured I should stop by here. I just finished installing electric fencing around the coop a few days ago; a bear has been hanging around and clearing out a few coops and I don't feel like my birds being next on her dinner list. Heat is still awful. Hatching season is over for real now; I got another 100% hatch on the quail I set.
I think I am under 50 birds again after the summer cull. I have one more round to do in the fall and then I will be set for winter. I am almost down to just PCs and silver AMs for chickens. Finally.

Hey there :frow Busy girl.
I've been binge watching youtube videos by Shawn James about the log cabin he built, alone. He's in Ontario. Very interesting series.

Some of my White Cornish just after moving to their new spot. 3 roosters one hen in this bunch. 8 hens in the last hatch

As of now you can keep the goats.... hubby said OK to the chickens, dux, and turkeys but so far draws the line at goats...but that's OK cuz I have my hands full with my current projects.
I am interested in finding good or at least decent buckeyes, Dominique, and Rhode Island red. I have committed to keeping some Americana''s and I am in love with my turken and turkeys so if I can come close to keeping up with this and some decent layer dux I will be a busy girl..
On a positive note I checked the turkey eggs under the broody chicken and so far they look good.
Oh and I sold 4 turkeys today so a good day.
I got told no to goats for years and years. But I kept asking.
The main reason we got them (other than them being cute) was for brush clearing, and boy, have they delivered.

This was solid green three weeks ago.

By Americanas, do you mean Easter Eggers or true Ameraucanas? Dominiques are nice, just not my thing. I like their tail sets, very elegant.

I’ve got 7 roosters to sell. And 4 older hens. Roosters were given to me. New coop build is still going slow but making progress. No eggs due but I have two broodies that just won’t quit. Every afternoon I take eggs. Next day right on cue there they are again. Too hot here for more chicks. Deer are crazy thick here this year don’t need goats. They are actually a little on the thin side. Trying the white Cornish as a breed and Speckled Sussex.
I believe I have only 4--7 cocks/cockerels total right now, amazingly. Last year I had double that at this time of year.
My bantams are in a non stop broody cycle too, not to mention the PC that throw their hats in the ring every other month. I think I have a Silver going broody too. :barnie Repeated axe threats haven't done much.
Nice! Any pictures of the Cornish? I was tempted to get some DC bantams but I don't have room.
Edit: I just read ahead. Nevermind
@BantyChooks

I think that your chickens are the survivors from this chick batch.....
Oh my. Someone get that goat more protein in his food.

Aretha has one week to go for this hatch. Her last hatch produced one duckling that died soon after.
I gave her three fresh Pekin eggs. I’m hoping she succeeds this time.
Meanwhile, the broody Pekin failed too (but she was out in the open during numerous storms), but was fine giving up. She and her parents are sleeping with the chickens for some reason.
Aw, I'm sorry that the duckling died. :( I have a chick (now named King Dummy McDummypants) that insists on sleeping outdoors. I have no idea where he goes and I can't catch him in time to make him sleep indoors. I'm surprised he isn't dead yet.

No rain after all. But..... saw blue sky today! Do you know how long it's been since we've seen blue sky? A little hazy, but could see the sky and clouds.
You want more? You can have my blue skies. This sunlight is killing me one degree at a time. I think I'm a vampire or something, because grey skies are just fine by me.

That sounds nice, I wouldn't mind living in a log cabin---except in winter. What area of ON? Sault ste. marie area, more north, more south?

Never! I need someone to pick on, don't I?
Good point. I'm the last of the gullible people around here. :caf
