From what I read...
The girl who shot her face off broke up with her boyfriend and in a moment of grief did something rash, and because there was a gun lying around she lost her face. Just tragic for her and her family.
The face doner was a young woman who died of a drug overdose. Her own mother had a drug problems even while she was pregnant. Another double tragedy.

The donors grandmother agreed for many parts of her granddaughter (who was a registered donor) to be used to save the lives of many people to give her granddaughter's life more meaning.
She sounded like a great woman.

We cannot judge the circumstances that unfortunate people end up in. They don't choose to have mental illness or be born addicted to drugs. Perhaps though people could do a better job at protecting their kids by restricting casual acess to guns and and drugs and knowing what their kids are up to to prevent avoidable tradegy.

Sorry about the rant. This is so so sad for all.

The article I saw only mentioned that it was a shotgun at her brother’s. It didn’t mention her boyfriend. It did say she’d always been depressed.
I struggle with her getting the transplant because we are so selective about other transplants. To the point of turning people down because they are in their fifties (“too old”) or had a drug arrest twenty years earlier.

Wow, I didn't know that you could be arrested for attempting suicide. I kind of figured it was so that police and EMT could legally go into a home where someone was committing suicide, i.e. a "crime in progress".

I wonder what it'd be like to get a new face? Strange, I bet.

I guess lots of people need new hearts or kidneys so they choose the people who (apart from best match) are most likely to benefit from them. A really tough job as there are so few available with so many needing them.

Guess the waiting list for people needing faces is not long.......

I know someone who had a Kidney transplant In his mid 70's. He is in his mid 80's now (and is still working).

In chicken news I’m hoping to bring back some eggs on the air lines after visiting my sister. Air lines say it’s possible to do as a carry on.

Does anyone have experience with this?

11 sold chickens are due to be picked up next week. Chicken math in check.

Aretha was up today. Not totally unheard of at the end, but after her last failed hatch, I am nervous. Tomorrow is hatch day. She has been sectioned off, and I have tried to keep her calm. I have never wanted ducks to hatch more.
